Purple Mukitake 

Scientific Name: Sarcomyxa serotina (syn. Panellus serotinus)

Purple Mukitake—also called Late Fall Oyster—is a cold-weather species that produces glossy, violet-brown caps with firm, elastic flesh. Its flavor is mild and slightly earthy, complementing rich broths and roasted dishes. Known for its resilience, Mukitake fruits late into autumn when most species have finished, making it a valuable off-season crop.

Substrate: Sterilized hardwood sawdust blocks or outdoor hardwood logs (oak, beech, or maple)
Colonization Temp: 70–75°F
Fruiting Temp: 45–60°F
Fruiting Humidity: 85–95%
Light: Moderate, indirect light
FAE: High; prefers cool, oxygen-rich environments
Notes: A slow colonizer but strong fruiter once established; performs best with cold initiation or outdoor temperature drops.
