Collection: Substrates

Rhizo Funga offers the same proven substrates we use in our own mushroom farm. We use local premium ingredients that are hand weighed, blended and hydrated to field capacity. Whether you’re looking to grow wood loving species like Lion’s Mane and oysters or dung loving varieties, our substrates — including the popular Master’s Mix — support dense, healthy yields. Each Unicorn bag is pre-hydrated, sterilized and heat sealed and includes a filter patch for passive gas exchange.

  • What is Master’s Mix?

A 50/50 blend of hardwood sawdust and soy hulls. It’s the go-to for species like Lion’s Mane and Oyster mushrooms.

  • Can I fruit directly in the bag?

Yes, once fully colonized just cut slits or remove the top depending on the mushroom species.

  • Pasterization vs. Sterilization

Pasteurization Reduces or kills most competing microbes and is typically used for bulk substrates that don’t contain high-nutrient supplements (like soy hulls). It's cheaper and easier but must be used shortly after preparation.

Sterilization destroys all microorganisms, including spores and is required for nutrient-rich media like grain spawn and supplemented substrates like Master's mix. These support both mushrooms and contaminants, so full sterilization is critical.
